County animal shelter will run as planned

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County supervisors took no action before adjourning Tuesday’s special board meeting within a few minutes of its start. Future operation of the animal shelter in downtown Kingman was the only issue before the board. The board voted June 3 to transition the shelter to a county-run facility because the current contract operator, the Lake Havasu City-based Western Arizona Humane Society (WAHS), previously indicated it did not want its contract extended beyond June 30 and no other providers indicated interest in overseeing the shelter. WAHS, however, subsequently expressed interest in running the shelter if the Board of…

Power outage disrupts business, government offices

KINGMAN – A power outage disrupted some government operations in downtown Kingman Tuesday. The Mohave County Courthouse, a number of county offices and Kingman City Hall lost power at 2:25 p.m. The county administration facility was minimally impacted because Information Technology Director Nathan McDaniel said the phone and computer systems have backup power capability so employees can keep working during a service interruption. $20 million secured for Rancho Santa Fe interchange celebrated

Mayor Jen Miles called it a celebration of “momentous progress” for development of the Rancho Santa Fe Interchange and Parkway. The Thursday press conference featured thanks and praise for local state representative Regina Cobb, who was instrumental in securing $20-million in state funding for the infrastructure component and economic development catalyst on Interstate 40 in northeast Kingman. Cobb returned the gratitude, saying the achievement was a “team effort” with Governor Doug Ducey capitalizing on his understanding of the need to improve Arizona’s transportation network to benefit directly impacted communities and the rest of the state as well. “This was an…

City of Kingman looking to change areas to annex

The City of Kingman is embarking upon a new annexation strategy. Manager Ron Foggin has indicated that the leadership team at City Hall is recommending focus on property near the proposed Kingman Crossing and Rancho Santa Fe Interstate 40 Interchanges, while putting Kingman High School and the municipal airport and industrial park “on the backburner.” Foggin said it has been determined, as it has before, that bringing the high school and airport into the city is a losing proposition financially, until the city adds a new revenue generation mechanism. He said it will cost far more to extend city services…
