Bullhead City celebrates 35-year milestone

Happy birthday Bullhead City! The Colorado River community that was incorporated on August 28, 1984 is celebrating its 35-year milestone.

“We tried incorporation three times and it failed the first two times and it wasn’t until the third time that it passed (by voters),” said Mayor Tom Brady, who moved to Bullhead City in 1982. “I remember when I first got here we had one traffic light in town and that was at Highway 95 and Hancock.”

City Manager Toby Cotter told Council members during their meeting last week that cake and ice cream would be provided in the lobby at city hall to mark the occasion Wednesday, Aug. 28.

Former Mayor Jack Hakim also offered reflection about his involvement in the municipality.

“I’m so proud of this city and I just know that we’re going to move forward another five years and another 10 years,” Hakim said. “I’m just so proud to have been part of it.”

Brady said he witnessed the city grow from 9,000 residents to more than 40,000 and that the city has sufficient water supply to sustain a population of 110,000.

“I am very proud of where Bullhead City—where it has been, where it currently is and where it’s going—I think we’ve got a great future ahead of us,” Brady said.
