Carson gets 10 years probation for abusing toddler

KINGMAN – Probation and jail time has been ordered for a Bullhead City man whose girlfriend caught him assaulting her toddler. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Megan McCoy has ordered a 120-day jail term for Ora Carson, 25.

Judge McCoy also placed Carson on supervised probation for 10 years during a June 2 hearing at the Mohave County Law and Justice Center in Kingman. Carson previously pleaded guilty to child abuse.

Authorities said the victim’s mother was suspicious that Carson might be abusing her two-year-old daughter. Police and the prosecutor previously indicated that the woman strategically placed her cellphone, and then left it recording when she left the room to later discover her daughter being abused by Carson in the video.

The woman took the evidence to police who arrested Carson on Feb. 23.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Rod Albright last month told the court that the video shows the victim being struck repeatedly about the head by the defendant’s open and closed hand. He said the child suffered bruising and scratches to her forehead and neck and was flown to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment.

“This was a case where a most forcible action was committed upon an innocent,” Judge McCoy said. “This two-year-old child had the audacity to make noises.”

McCoy urged Carson to use jail time and probation to reflect on what went wrong and to take corrective measures to ensure he does not harm others in the future.
