KINGMAN, Ariz. – Several came out Saturday to see if they could find a pet to adopt. Some did; but some could not find what they were looking for.
A couple of sisters in their 80s left empty handed. They told The Standard they wanted a small dog that was as slow as they were. The shelter has puppies that are small now, but their paws say they wouldn’t be small much longer. The older dogs were too big and too energetic for the petite sisters.

Lynn Kannianen, President of Friends of Mohave County Animal Shelter (MCAS) said they were donating $100 toward adoptions Saturday for the adoption of dogs over 30 pounds.
Friends of MCAS does a lot to help the animal shelter. About a month ago they helped with flying several dogs to a 3,000-acre pet rescue ranch, Best Friends, where they could roam free.
Ms. Kannianen said she got volunteers together who got the crates ready, helped load the dogs and then drove them to the airport.
“Nicole (Mangiameli), the shelter’s manager, and Best Friends, the pet rescue ranch, in Kanab, Utah, arranged for the transfer of the dogs and puppies,” Ms. Kannianen said. “But Dog is My Co-pilot paid for the transport. “We are all 501-3C and depend on donations. We all work together to save lives.”
She said they will most likely be transporting more dogs to Utah before long.
Saturday’s two-hour special sale at the shelter was a success. Ms. Kannianen said they adopted three dogs, four puppies and two kittens.
However, the shelter is still full and running over. If anyone has been thinking about getting a dog, or a cat, now is the right time. For more information, call the shelter at 928-753-2727 or visit them at 3423 Burbank Street.
