Bullhead City gears up for Spring sports season

BULLHEAD CITY – The City of Bullhead City urges the public to prepare for a series of busy sports tourism weekends beginning February 14 and lasting through the spring season.

“Looking at the calendar, we have multiple major tourism events taking place every weekend starting now through the beginning of summer,” said Bullhead City Public Information Officer Mackenzie Covert. “We already had a taste of the sports season a few weekends ago with the Slab-O-Rama taking place at the same time as two youth football championships, but now we’re going full speed into our heavy sports season.”

The annual American Youth Soccer Organization’s Colorado River Invitational Tournament (CRIT) will begin this weekend, bringing 103 teams to Bullhead City’s Rotary Park. CRIT will coincide with the AFA youth softball tournament filling up Rotary and Ken Fovargue Park’s nine softball and baseball fields. The youth softball tournament will begin on Saturday, February 15, and wrap up on Monday, February 17.

Immediately after the AFA youth softball tournament, the AFA Bash for Bats adult softball tournament will bring 101 adult softball teams to compete from the 18 through the 23. Power Play Sporting Events will host a baseball tournament in Rotary Park March 1 through 2 and the Dave Kops Tournament of Champions will bring dozens of the nation’s top-ranked high school softball teams to Bullhead City March 6 through 8.

“Each of the hundreds of teams coming to Bullhead this weekend and the coming weekends will bring dozens of people, including players, coaches, parents, siblings, and grandparents,” said Covert. “Those people will stay in local hotels and short-term rentals, eat at local restaurants, and patronize local businesses.”

“It’s important for local businesses to be aware of the economic impact of these tournaments and to adequately prepare for the rush of customers that comes with the influx of tourism,” said Bullhead City Manager Toby Cotter. Tournaments like the Colorado River Invitational Tournament and the Dave Kops Tournament of Champions bring in several million dollars into our community in a single weekend each year.”
