BOS to revisit hiring freeze on Monday

MOHAVE COUNTY – Several Mohave County officials expressed concerns about service delivery as the Board of Supervisors approved an across-the-board hiring freeze during its Aug. 21 meeting. And some of them are now rushing back to the board requesting exceptions to the hiring stoppage directive.

Seven department heads are requesting hiring freeze exceptions for nearly four dozen positions. Sheriff Doug Schuster leads the way in seeking 28 exceptions for his department followed by county attorney Matt Smith who seeks freeze relief for eight positions in his domain.

The board will take up the exception requests during its Sept. 5 meeting.

Supervisors will also consider Board Chairman Travis Lingenfelter’s proposed one year moratorium for new utility scale renewable energy projects.

Civil division attorney Ryan Esplin will update the board regarding two matters being litigated. The county has sued the Fair Association over accounting issues and a contractor regarding a problematic well drilling project for the Golden Valley Improvement District.
