LESTER WADE BYRAM

Lester Wade Byram, a longtime Kingman resident and former Mayor, passed away at age 92 on August 19, 2021, at home in the company of family following a brief illness. Lester was born and grew up in Melbourne, Arkansas, where he played college basketball at Arkansas Tech. He received a graduate degree in Education from Arizona State University and undertook doctoral studies at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Fair takeover compromise

KINGMAN – Mohave County supervisors have opted for compromise after voting Aug. 16 for immediate termination of a lease allowing the Fair Association to operate the Fairgrounds facilities in Kingman and hold events there. A 3-2 vote during a special Aug. 19 board meeting will instead terminate the lease at the end of this year. Missing person found

BULLHEAD CITY – A missing persons case has ended tragically in Bullhead City. Andrea Lawson was last seen around 3:00 p.m. last Friday when she was in the Palo Verde Meadows medical complex at 3015 Highway 95. Authorities were concerned because the 56-year-old Lawson suffered from dementia and was considered endangered. Her body was located and retrieved from the Colorado River near the medical complex at about noon on Saturday. Foul play is not suspected. Dave Hawkins

McCoy and Spurlock appointed to Mohave County

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey on Friday appointed Megan A. McCoy to the Mohave County Superior Court judicial position vacated when the Honorable Charles Gurtler retired on June 30. McCoy, Kingman, was one of four finalists who interviewed for the bench appointment. McCoy served as a Deputy Mohave County Attorney prosecuting cases from 2006 to 2019, when she was appointed as Mohave County Court Commissioner.
