BHC man takes plea in mother’s brutal death

BULLHEAD CITY – A Bullhead City man faces at least a decade behind bars after pleading guilty to the brutal beating death of his mother. A first-degree murder charge would be reduced to a second-degree murder conviction under terms of the deal entered Thursday, Feb. 8 before Judge Billy Sipe. March 13, 1943 – May 31, 2023 Elaine Anne Byrnes passed away on May 31, 2023, at a Hospice house in Tucson. Elaine was born on March 13, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts to Samuel and Anna (O’Shea) Cooke. In June 1961 Elaine married her soulmate, John Byrnes. Together, they raised a familyand relocated to Lake Havasu in 1976.  Elaine volunteered at her children’s elementary schools, Starline and Oro Grande and eventually built a career at the Lake Havasu Board of Realtors. Upon retirement, she volunteered at the Lake Havasu City Visitor Center. In 2020, she moved to Tucson to be closer to family. Elaine was a loving wife, and a dearmother to her five children. She was also a proud“Grammy/Gigi” to ten…

MOHAVE COUNTY – That the Arizona Corporation Commission approved a substantial rate increase for UniSource Energy Services (UES) electric customers gained nominal publicity, and many customers who missed the news will likely be caught by surprise when they open their bills this month and next. The rate increase averaging $13.68 a month on average for residential customers went into effect Feb 1. A smaller portion of that adjustment will be reflected by those receiving bills in the first half of the month with later Feb. bills taking a bigger bite from the wallet, before billing consistency takes root in March….

City seeks volunteers for Desert Clean-Up

BULLHEAD CITY, AZ., February 7, 2024 – The City of Bullhead City is seeking volunteers to join a desert clean-up event being organized through a joint effort by The City, Golden Vertex, Republic Services, Mohave County’s ERACE program, and the Bureau of Land Management. Another fire fatality in Golden Valley

GOLDEN VALLEY – Another fire fatality is under investigation by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. Agency spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said foul play is not suspected in the death of Dana Lee Pollan, 67. Mortensen said deputies responded at about 11:22 pm on Sunday, Feb. 4 to the incident in the 4500 block of Smoketree Road in Golden Valley. They were greeted by firefighters who reportedly indicated that the fire had been contained to a bedroom within the residence. Mortensen said Pollan’s body was recovered from that bedroom.
