Courtroom packed as Shuffler arraignment

KINGMAN – Emotion ran high and tears flowed freely during Thursday’s initial appearance and arraignment for a Kingman teenager charged in the deaths of two fellow Lee Williams High School student athletes and the serious injury of two others during a high-speed traffic accident. Dear Editor, Every day in America we hear the names of Biden and Trump mentioned on various news television or radio stations. We daily hear about the struggles of Ukraine and Russia. Border security, illegal immigrants, inner city issues and China are almost daily themes.  How could we ever get through a day in America without hearing these ongoing names, themes and issues?  It doesn’t seem like we can especially if we daily watch the national news.  Many of us don’t want to live with our heads in the sand thinking the world is a cozy place with everyone living in…

BOS to revisit hiring freeze on Monday

MOHAVE COUNTY – Several Mohave County officials expressed concerns about service delivery as the Board of Supervisors approved an across-the-board hiring freeze during its Aug. 21 meeting. And some of them are now rushing back to the board requesting exceptions to the hiring stoppage directive. Seven department heads are requesting hiring freeze exceptions for nearly four dozen positions. Sheriff Doug Schuster leads the way in seeking 28 exceptions for his department followed by county attorney Matt Smith who seeks freeze relief for eight positions in his domain.
