Sex with teen brings plea deal

BULLHEAD CITY – The court has broad discretion when it sentences a male adult who engaged in sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl in Ft. Mohave. Silvestre Gonzalez, 29, pleaded guilty Nov. 3 to a charge reduced to attempted sexual conduct with a minor. Deputy Mohave County Attorney Phillip Delgado said that Gonzalez had sex with the teen in his car that he parked in front of the victim’s house in March. Terms of the deal allow for probation all the way up to 15 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled Dec. 4 before Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen.

Yacht Club hosts Casino Night fundraiser

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Casino Night at the Lake Havasu Yacht Club was this past Saturday, Nov 11 at the Havasu Yacht Club.  This was a fundraising event for the Mohave County Boating Safety Program whose mission is to provide boating safety to the community through education and volunteer opportunities.  It was in 1969 when three enthusiasts of boating thought they should form a yacht club. After the three men put an article in the paper, their first meeting took place at Smoketree School.  Other meetings continued and they were usually held at schools or locations by the lake.  With…

JACQUES BILLEAUD Associated Press PHOENIX (AP) – A federal appeals court has agreed to give abortion rights advocates a chance to revive their bid to block an Arizona law that makes it a felony for doctors to perform abortions on patients seeking the procedure solely because of a fetal genetic abnormality, such as Down syndrome. In an order issued in early November, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sent the case back to a lower court to consider the doctors’ request for a court order blocking the law. Fashion show fundraiser to benefit cancer association

LAKE HAVASU CITY – The excitement is building as the Havasu Community Health Foundation (HCHF) prepares for their 32nd Annual Elegant Evenings Fashion Show fundraiser. The Cancer Association is with HCHF and was organized in 1999 by group of local volunteers.  The aim is to put emphasize on cancer screenings at a low cost. The group provides education and a support system for cancer patients and their families.  They are strong believers that early detection is best method to increase positive diagnosis.
