Kingman Girl Scout leader recognized for volunteerism

KINGMAN – A Girl Scout leader of more than 30 years received a prestigious award for her work with the community.

Grace Ricca-Runge, 68, and a lifelong resident of Kingman, was the recipient of the Girl Scouts of America Girl Scouts Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC) Impact Award in Phoenix Nov. 9 recognizing her volunteerism, leadership and enthusiasm for Girl Scouts.

Ricca has been leading Troop 1090 for 33 years. She’s also a co-service team manager, neighborhood treasurer and has been managing the Camp Stephens Girl Scout camp in the Hualapai Mountains since 1997.

Dear Editor,

My friend sent me the copy of the article written by the 84 year old! How tacky that person was in the name calling. Really?? Grade school?? How old are we actually? I’m a 73 year old great grandma. So not a spring chicken – Here is my rebuttal to that letter:

84 Years –

Unfortunately, it seems that you have had a drink or two of that “proverbial Kool-Aid.” In all your years on this earth, I’m sure you have run into people who had a drink of that same “Kool-Aid.”

So, if I may reiterate: I really do wish a liars pants caught on fire.

Kingman Police awarded GOHS funding

KINGMAN – The Kingman Police Department has announced that it has been awarded a $34,502 grant from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for DUI/Impaired Driving Enforcement. The grant funds will be used to pay for officer’s overtime costs for enhanced targeted DUI and impaired driving enforcement throughout the City of Kingman from October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025. The goal of the Impaired Driving Program is to reduce alcohol and drug related driving fatalities and injuries through enforcement, education, and public awareness throughout the State of Arizona.

Owens provides and makes available at no charge, seating for veterans in front of the Thunder-Rode so that veterans and their families can enjoy viewing parades in comfort. She has provided seating for the Andy Devine Days Parade, the Veterans Day Parade and other events held on Beale St. in downtown Kingman. Owens has been providing this service to the community and the honoring veterans for many years.
