Roundy is Microgrant recipient

At its March 6 meeting Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club presented Kingman Academy of Learning teacher, Stephanie Roundy with a microgrant donation check of $2,000 (shown with Rotarian Brenda Rhodes and club president Karen Brown). Roundy teaches third through fifth grades and will be using the donation for materials to be used in the Sensory Path Circuit program. This is an evidence-based, colorful, creative and playful way for kids to improve fundamental motor skills and build stronger sensory connections in the brain that are responsible for sight, touch, sound, and balance.

Arizona Hot Spring trail ladder temporarily closed

BOULDER CITY, Nevada – A temporary emergency closure went into effect for the Arizona Hot Spring Trail ladder within Lake Mead National Recreation Area on March 17. The ladder was washed out during a recent flood event and is closed in the interest of public and employee safety. During the closure, visitors will not be able to reach the hot spring from the Colorado River. Access will only be possible by hiking the very strenuous 2.5-mile Arizona Hot Spring Trail from the U.S. Highway 93 trailhead. The ladder is scheduled to reopen by April 16.

Blanchard sentenced to 14 years for armed robbery, negligent homicide

KINGMAN – A 14-year prison term was ordered Monday for a Golden Valley teenager who pled guilty to armed robbery and negligent homicide in separate criminal cases. Marcus Blanchard, 18, was sentenced by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle. During a March 4 change of plea hearing, prosecutor Bob Moon told the court that Blanchard was 16 years old in March, 2018 when he tried to take a bag of marijuana from a person in a vehicle outside a party in the 3500 block of North Bonita Road. As I see it, one more divisive (my way or the highway) attitude which is driving yet another   Consider the Republican mantra regarding individual freedoms of less government in our lives being desirable, then ask why the Republicans want to restrict a woman’s right to seek an abortion, or why they object to same sex marriages, freedoms most of the rabid right want abolished. Kingman City Council cancels April meetings

Commission meetings also canceled KINGMAN, Ariz. – The City Council has canceled all April meetings. The Council can hold special meetings, in the event that certain city business needs to be addressed. The Municipal Utilities Commission will hold its meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 26, however City Commission meetings will also be canceled for the month of April. The Council is encouraging the public to use the live-streaming services the city currently offers, like YouTube, to watch all city public meetings.
