Cancer foundation raises awareness with Havasu chefs

LAKE HAVASU CITY– With more than 70 cancer nonprofits alone in the United States, many may not think to combine unique cuisines to promote their cause. The Heidi Edwards Cooking for Cancer Foundation is a rare cancer nonprofit that is doing just that.   The foundation was founded by Heidi Edwards who was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2010. Throughout Edward’s own challenge with the disease, she wanted to provide assistance to patients, as well as their families. With the help of one of Lake Havasu’s upscale restaurants Shugrues, and the Calvary Church, she organized the group’s first spaghetti dinner fundraiser.   Edward’s vision and quest to help…

Second bridge feasibility discussed at council

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Buzz of the second bridge feasibility study was discussed at Lake Havasu’s city council meeting last week. The next steps of this project will include the following plans;  Stakeholders will be holding a meeting in early to late of June along with a public open house in that same time period.  Coordinating with state parks on this plan is also in the works.  However, the final study of this will be taking place this June.  A motion was passed by council members for the Havasu Foothills Estates development to include Tract 2390.   This recommendation was made this past…

Willard pleads guilty to firing upon EMTs

KINGMAN – A Kingman man admits firing upon public safety officials who responded to his medical emergency call at his home last fall. Steven Willard, 67, pleaded guilty Friday, May 17 to two counts of aggravated assault. Terms of the plea deal dismiss two attempted murder counts and a prohibited weapon possession charge. Deputy Mohave County Attorney Phillip Delgado said two Northern Arizona Fire District firefighter/EMT’s responded to Willard’s call for help at his home at 3725 E. John L. Expect brief daytime delays on US 93 near Wikieup May 20-23 for paving project

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists traveling on US 93 near the community of Wikieup to plan for daytime restrictions May 20 – 23, along a 10-mile section of the highway. BLM welcomes input on draft plans to modernize management of Arizona recreation sites

PHOENIX – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking public input on five draft Recreation Business Plans that would modernize the way recreation fee sites are managed for the following locations: Kingman Field Office, Lake Havasu Field Office, the Arizona Strip Field Office’s Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area, the Phoenix District’s Recreational Shooting Sites, and the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument’s Paria Canyon/Coyote Buttes Special Management Area and White Pocket.  An interactive StoryMap shows the locations and all proposed fee sites and changes, as well as how to provide comments.
