Arizona Electric Power Cooperative/Mohave Electric Cooperative postpone meeting to discuss proposed Mohave Valley facility

MOHAVE COUNTY – Arizona Electric Power Cooperative (AEPCO/MEC) has requested that their applications for an amendment to the Mohave County General Plan be postponed.  The issue involves the company’s application going from a Suburban Residential Area land use designation to an Urban Development Area land use designation and a Rezone from an A-R (Agricultural Residential) zone to an M-X (Heavy Manufacturing) zone for a portion of Assessor’s Parcel No. 225-09-052.  It would allow for a natural gas-powered electric generation facility in the Mohave Valley vicinity. The postponement moves the item from the July 1, 2024, Board of Supervisors meeting to the August 19, 2024 Board of Supervisors meeting.

The request was based on the Mohave County’s Planning Commission’s call for an AEPCO/MEC meeting with the Fort Mohave Indian Tribe (FMIT) to address concerns about the project before the applications are presented before the Board of Supervisors.

The Tribe requested this postponement of the applications at the June 12, 2024, Planning and Zoning Commission meeting when it delivered a letter to that Commission.

The Chairman has granted the continuance based on AEPCO/MEC and FMIT’s letters so that information and concerns can be addressed.
