LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – “When you’re a parent of a child with special needs, it can feel very lonely a lot of times without a good support system,” Samantha Zasaldi said. The Lake Havasu mom is the founder of the new Building Bridges organization. Formed in January of this year, it’s a nonprofit that supports families and caregivers.
The charity is a chapter of Ambucs, a disability nonprofit that encourages mobility independence. This weekend Zasaldi will be launching Lake Havasu’s first ever All Abilities Resource Fair on Saturday, Sept. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Aquatic Center, 100 Park Ave.
About eight years ago, Zasaldi met Jillian Danielson at Calvary Baptist Church.
Both have children with special needs. Zasaldi shared that her daughter’s various health conditions, came with the challenge of continuous commutes to the Phoenix area for her to receive care.
Over the past several months, Zasaldi and Danielson began planning community resource fair that would be beneficial for disabled children and adults as well as their families.
Mayor Cal Sheehy will make an appearance to give the occasion a proclamation. “My personal motivator for starting this event is to bring more resources to families so they can have an opportunity to thrive and figure out the next steps for their needs. The goal is to have these events yearly I’m excited to see the impact it could make for the community. I’m hoping it will be beneficial for everybody,” Zasaldi added.
