KINGMAN, Ariz. – A man who assaulted a woman with a crockpot in Kingman and is charged in a drunk driving crash in Bullhead City has been sentenced to the Arizona Department of Corrections. A 5.5-year prison term was ordered Monday for Shane Peterson, 51.
Peterson was convicted of three aggravated assault charges in a plea agreement that resolved the Kingman case. Authorities said Peterson smacked a Kingman woman in the head with a crockpot that contained an undisclosed hot liquid during a May 9 incident at an apartment complex in the 3000 block of Hualapai Mountain Road.
The other two assault convictions involve his possession of a firearm when confronted by two Kingman police officers. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle said Peterson might consider himself lucky to have not drawn police fire and been killed.
“I was way out of my mind,” said Peterson, adding he’d like to apologize to the officers who were not present at the sentencing hearing. “I was very badly drunk.”
Peterson is also charged with drunk driving for a March 8 incident in Bullhead City. Police said Peterson was intoxicated when the vehicle he was driving southbound on Highway 95 ran off the road and crashed into a wall near Chili’s in the 2700 block of Silver Creek Road.
Peterson’s Bullhead City case is still pending.
