Repeat sex offender pleads guilty

KINGMAN – A Kingman man already serving prison time for sex offense convictions has pleaded guilty in a second case. James Lummel, 63, was handed an eight-year prison term at a March 26 hearing after he was convicted of two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor at trial.

The jury was unable to reach unanimous verdicts on two other child pornography related charges while the court dismissed another.

Lummel was charged with child molestation involving a female minor in a second case and he pleaded guilty to a reduced attempted child molestation count during an April 30 hearing before Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen, his last day on the bench before retirement.

“His lawyer says he is not a monster,” the victim’s father said. “I beg to differ. He touched my daughter.”

Jantzen imposed lifetime probation for Lummel, following completion of his prison sentence. Prosecutor Leah Nelson said the lifetime probation provision is necessary to ensure supervision so that Lummel doesn’t make victims of others in the future.
