KINGMAN, Ariz. – David Allen Lange, aka “Navy Davy” will be Inducted into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame October 23 at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale.
He was nominated by Pat and Casey Farrell and Nani and Bob Chrimes because of his volunteering with Jerry Ambrose Veterans Council (JAVC) and the Kingman Elks Lodge.
For JAVC, Lange said he drove 150,000 miles over a six-year period, driving veterans to medical and legal appointments.
“I’m the only person (Pat Ferrell’s) wife allows to drive to medical appointments other than her,” Lange said.
For the Elks Lodge, where he is a member, Lange said he was on the House Maintenance Committee and he also helped cook and support all events, like Fishing for Smiles, for kids, veterans and members.
He said it was such an amazing honor to be nominated and to win, the first time nominated, especially since they don’t take that many people, he stated.
“I had goosebumps all over my body when I got the call to tell me I had won.”
Lange is a 20-year retired Navy man. He said for his first 10 years, he did reactor maintenance and for the last 10 years, he was an anti-terrorism specialist.
He and his wife, Tami Woods, moved to Kingman six years ago from Southern California after he retired from Kingman. Originally, however, he’s from Michigan and she from New York. They met while he was in the Navy.
He said his wife kept their lives going, enabling him to volunteer all the hours he does.
“She’s also involved with the Jerry Ambrose Veterans Council and the Elks Lodge. We like to help out our community,” Lange said.
His first grandson, Augustus John Lawhorn, was born Sunday, September 27. Lange said he was going to spoil him rotten.
He’s very happy to have moved to Kingman.
“I’ve really enjoyed picking Kingman as my place for retirement,” Navy Davy Lange said.
