Rivas enters a plea for meth transport

KINGMAN – A California man arrested for hauling 27 pounds of methamphetamine through northwest Arizona entered a plea agreement on April 27. Oscar Rivas, 65, Los Angeles is convicted of transportation of dangerous drugs for sale.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Amanda Claerhout said Rivas was the sole occupant of a vehicle stopped on Jan. 23 for an equipment violation on Interstate 40, about six miles west of the Kingman city limits. She told Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen that a search was conducted after a law enforcement K-9 alerted during an open-air sniff of the vehicle.

Claerhout said the methamphetamine was located in vacuum-sealed baggies that had been placed in a suitcase.

Rivas is eligible for probation but could also get up to 12.5 years in prison when sentenced on May 20.
