First of nine enters plea in child porn sting

BULLHEAD CITY – A Bullhead City man arrested in a January sting operation that targeted alleged adult sexual predators of children has entered a plea agreement that will send him to the Arizona Department of Corrections. The plea deal for Carlos Calhoun, 50, was unveiled during an April 6 hearing before Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen.

Calhoun is convicted of a charge reduced to attempted luring of a minor for sexual exploitation. Deputy Mohave County attorney Leah Nelson said Calhoun communicated with a person he believed to be a 14-year-old boy who was actually an undercover law enforcement officer.

Nelson told judge Jantzen that Calhoun invited the “juvenile’’ to watch porn and engage in sexually explicit activity with him. Eight other men were arrested in the sting operation led by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and supported by numerous other law enforcement agencies.

Calhoun is also convicted of two counts of taking the identity of another. Nelson said the defendant used another person’s insurance card, driver’s license and birth certificate to misrepresent himself as a victim identified as “T.M.”

Calhoun faces up to 7.5-years in prison when sentenced April 30. The plea deal requires lifetime probation following prison.
