Free household hazardous waste event Saturday, April 18

BULLHEAD CITY – The Bullhead City Fire Department and Mohave County Environmental Quality have announced a Free Residential Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be held at the Motor Vehicle Division, located at 1325 Alona’s Way. This event provides residents with a valuable opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials from their homes and garages. Since this collection is offered only twice a year, we strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of this convenient, free service. To make the process as easy and safe as possible, the event will feature a drive-thru disposal system, allowing participants to remain in their vehicles while dropping off their items.

Please note that E-waste items will not be accepted at this event. For a detailed list of accepted and prohibited items, please refer to the attached flyer.

Why Proper Disposal of Household Hazardous Waste Matters

Household hazardous waste includes products such as paints, automotive fluids, pesticides, batteries, and cleaners that contain chemicals harmful to people, pets, and the environment. Improper disposal, such as pouring these materials down drains, onto the ground, or in regular trash, can contaminate soil, groundwater, and local waterways, posing serious health risks and damaging ecosystems. Additionally, hazardous waste can create dangerous conditions for sanitation workers and waste management personnel, including fire and chemical exposure hazards. By safely disposing of these materials at designated collection events, we protect our community’s health, preserve the environment, and comply with safety regulations. This effort helps keep hazardous substances out of landfills and prevents pollution of the desert and local water supplies.
