Bulhead bayonet-wielder takes plea

BULLHEAD CITY – A Bullhead City man who threatened family members while possessing a long knife was placed on probation at his March 23 sentencing hearing at the Mohave County Law and Justice Center in Kingman. David Delgadillo, 71, previously entered a plea agreement convicting him of aggravated assault.

A family quarrel involving use of Delgadillo’s vehicle occurred in Sept. last year at an apartment in the 3800 block of McCormick Boulevard, according to Bullhead City Police Department Public Information Officer Emily Fromelt. She said Delgadillo disparaged his stepdaughter in the presence of his 15- and 18-year-old grandsons.

Fromelt said Delgadillo retrieved a “bayonet” with a 9” blade and held it toward the victims after he was confronted by one of the grandsons. She said Delgadillo issued threats of physical harm, but ultimately put the weapon away and no one was injured.

“He recognizes his temper got the better of him,” said defense attorney Emily Weiss.

“I did have bad judgment that day and I do take responsibility,” Delgadillo told Mohave County Superior Court judge Lee Jantzen. “It’s just something that shouldn’t have happened.”

That Delgadillo would avoid prison and be placed on probation for five years was stipulated in the plea agreement. Judge Jantzen further ordered Delgadillo to serve 120 days in custody at the Adult Detention Facility, perform 50 hours of community work service and undergo an anger management assessment.
