MOHAVE VALLEY – A 10.5-year prison term has been ordered for a Mohave Valley man wounded by Mohave County Sheriff’s Office gunfire nearly a year ago. Richard Crist, 68, was sentenced on Jan. 21 by Superior Court judge Lee Jantzen.
Crist was convicted of two counts of aggravated assault at a jury trial last Nov.
Defense attorney Ross Carponelli said mental health issues and suicidal ideations motivated his client’s behavior on Feb. 8, 2025.
Deputy County Attorney Jacob Cote has said that law enforcement responded after Crist, during a crisis hotline call, threatened to harm others and take his own life at his property in the 8200 block of South Green Valley. He said Sergeant Mike Goodwin shot Crist outside his home after Crist pointed a BB gun at him.
Crist was flown to Las Vegas for treatment.
