Christmas Eve fire was fatal

KINGMAN – A Christmas Eve residential structure fire fatality is under investigation in north Kingman. Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies responding to the incident were reportedly overcome by smoke and heat as they located and attempted to remove a male victim after making entry into the home in the 2800 block of Hearne Ave.

“Personnel from the Northern Arizona Fire District were able to extricate the victim from the residence and immediately began life saving measures,” said MCSO spokeswoman Anita Mortensen. She said the victim, whose name is withheld pending notification of kin, died following transport to Kingman Regional Medical Center.

Mortensen said a deputy transported to the same hospital was released following treatment for smoke inhalation. She said the fire cause is under investigation.
