MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has received several calls recently alerting them to an increase in phone scams. MCSO is aware that scammers are using their employees’ names and a fake badge number to call and tell residents that they have an outstanding citation, missed jury summons, or an active warrant.
The scammer will then tell the potential victim that they need to come to the office or make an immediate payment over the phone to avoid arrest. MCSO wants to emphasize a few key points in regards to these calls.
No law enforcement agency will call you to let you know you have a warrant. The Sheriff’s Office will never call you and ask for a payment over the phone. The Sheriff’s Office will never come to your house and arrest you if you refuse to make a payment over the phone.
If someone claims they are from MCSO and tells you to complete any of the above mentioned tasks, it is a scam.
MCSO understand that getting these types of phone calls can be intimidating. They also understand that the person making these phone calls can be pushy and aggressive. Please know that MCSO does not conduct business in this manner.
If you receive these calls, hang up the phone immediately and do not give out any personal information. Protect yourself, your assets, and your identity by not giving any information to these callers.
