2014 was when their nonprofit credentials were granted; however, their early planning stages faced some challenges as the store changed locations on multiple occasions. By 2021, Watson-Butemeyer was almost ready to give up on her dream, that is until an anonymous donor provided space for the team at 1968 Mesquite Ave. The building needed work and the community was supportive of the business owner’s efforts, were happy to get involved.

In an interview, Watson-Butemeyer gave thanks to contractors involved who made the building into Clothes Closet. “If it were not for the contractors, this thing would not be where it is today. The contractors have been donating their time, they have donated most of their materials, and even with their busy schedules, they have been here working non-stop. I can’t thank them enough. They are the foundation of this building.”

Today, Clothes Closet is well known by the community for their selfless support system. They continue to carry out their mission of providing free clothing to those facing life’s economic challenges. They also strive to encourage purpose and dignity within people even when they feel it’s impossible.
