Murder trial underway

KINGMAN – A homicide trial began Wednesday in Mohave County Superior Court in Kingman. Roy Medlin, 65, Golden Valley, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of David Hendrix, 49.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Jake Chavez said the pair argued over rental debt for days before Medlin shot and killed Hendrix on Oct. 3, 2020 at the defendant’s home in the 4600 block of N. So Hi Blvd. He said Medlin’s justified shooting claims are not supported by the evidence.

“The facts will show that Roy did not act in self-defense. This was an act of murder,” Chavez told the jury.

Defense lawyer George Hibbeler countered that Medlin was a peaceful man and did act in self-defense after taking in the homeless Hendrix, his girlfriend, and their autistic teenage son. “Dave Hendrix responded to this generosity by abusing Roy physically, financially, and emotionally.”

The jury trial before Judge Billy Sipe is expected to extend into next week.
