Fire sprinkler system credited for saving area restaurant

BULLHEAD CITY – Thursday morning, March 18, the Bullhead City Fire Department (BHCFD) responded to a commercial fire alarm at Hibachi Grill, 2280 Highway 95, where they found light smoke coming from the rooftop. BHCFD gained access to an active fire in the kitchen area. The building was equipped with a fire sprinkler system that properly activated when the fire broke out, keeping the blaze contained with minimal damage.

There were no injuries reported. Upon investigation, the fire was identified as starting on the cooktop range, which activated the hood extinguishment system and one sprinkler head containing the damage to that immediate area.

Contrary to many movie portrayals, only sprinkler heads directly exposed to the heat activate. Having a fire sprinkler system can keep a fire from spreading and aid with extinguishment. Fire spreads quickly and can double in size every minute. Even small fires can cause significant damages to property and endanger those nearby.
