Meth powder decorates interstate; driver enters plea

KINGMAN – The driver of a moving vehicle from which pounds of methamphetamine were tossed onto Interstate 40 during a police chase entered a plea agreement Monday. Guadalupe Astorga, 44, Tulare, California is being convicted of transportation of dangerous drugs for sale. Terms of the deal require Mohave County Superior Court Judge Doug Camacho to order a five-year prison term when Astorga is sentenced on July 20. Authorities allege Astorga kept driving when a Mohave County Sheriff’s deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop for a suspected lane change violation about two miles east of Kingman. 2020 expected to be ‘extreme’ for AZ wildfires

PHOENIX – Public lands in Arizona and perhaps the Western U.S. appear to be facing the most extreme year for wildland fire in more than a decade. The month of May was a record year for fire occurrence in Arizona. From May 1 to May 31, Arizona experienced 527 wildfires burning 81,536 acres.  As of last week, Arizona has already experienced 941 wildfires this year burning 169,069 acres, of which 896 (95 percent) of those fires were human cased. Sanitation rates may be going up for commercial, residential users in Kingman

KINGMAN – Kingman sanitation service rates could be going up early next year for some customers. Yet to be scheduled public hearings could see the Municipal Utilities Commission considering increasing solid waste program rate hikes in August that Finance Director Tina Moline said could be implemented in January or February. A year-long study of Kingman’s solid waste program was the focus of 75 minutes of presentation and discussion during the May 19 city council meeting. Martin gets 16 years for daughter’s death

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A 16-year prison term has been ordered for the Lake Havasu City man who pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the May, 2019 death of his 18-month-old daughter. Punishment imposed during a June 19 hearing by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle was mandated in a plea agreement for Ty Martin, 24.
