Dear Editor,
My name is Hannah Corkins, and I’m running for City Council because I believe our community deserves leadership that is present, grounded, and truly connected to the people who live here. Local government works best when leaders listen, engage, and understand the everyday realities families face, and that is the kind of leadership I am committed to providing.
I’m a mom of two, and every decision I make is shaped by the future I want for my children and for all families in our community. I want my kids to grow up in a place that is safe, welcoming, and proud of its roots a community that respects all cultures and is prepared for the challenges ahead, not just today, but for generations to come. Being a parent gives me a personal understanding of how policy decisions impact real lives, real households, and real futures families.
I’m also a U.S. Army veteran. My time in service taught me discipline, responsibility, resilience, and the importance of standing up for others. It reinforced my belief that leadership is not about titles or power it’s about service, accountability, and doing what’s right, even when it’s difficult. Those values are the foundation of my campaign and guide how I approach every challenge.
What I Stand For
I’m running because I want to see thoughtful, people-first progress in our community. My priorities reflect what I hear from residents and what I believe will strengthen Kingman for the long term.
Public safety and child safety are essential. Families deserve to feel safe in their neighborhoods, parks, schools, and public spaces. Protecting children and vulnerable populations must always come first. I support proactive safety measures, including child safety zones, responsible enforcement, and policies that focus on prevention rather than reaction.
Transparency and accountability in local government matter. Residents deserve honesty, clear communication, and leaders who listen instead of dismissing concerns. Trust is built through openness and consistency, and I am committed to ensuring that community voices are heard and respected.
I strongly support families and working parents. Local policies should reflect real-life challenges and help families thrive, not create additional obstacles. When families succeed, the entire community benefits.
Preserving Kingman’s history while planning for the future is another priority. Our city has a rich and meaningful past, and I believe we can grow responsibly while protecting historic areas, honoring where we came from, and educating future generations. Growth and preservation can and should exist together.
I also want to see more Indigenous celebrations and cultural awareness. Recognizing and honoring Indigenous culture and history strengthens community pride, understanding, and unity. Kingman has an opportunity to do better and do more when it comes to cultural awareness and education, and I want to help move that forward.
Water awareness and long-term water planning are critical issues facing our region. I want to increase community awareness, support responsible planning, and advocate for sustainable solutions that protect our water resources for future generations. This affects families, businesses, and our local economy, and it deserves serious, proactive attention.
Supporting veterans, first responders, and service members is personal to me. Those who serve our country and our community deserve real support, not just words. I support programs like Veterans Treatment Court, deferment and assistance programs, and resources that help veterans succeed after service. I also want to increase support for our firefighters, first responders, and police officers the men and women who show up every day, often at great personal risk, to protect our community. Retention, resources, mental health support, and fair treatment are essential if we want to keep these professionals here in Kingman.
Above all, I believe in listening to residents, not special interests. City Council should represent the people who live here. Community input should matter, and residents should feel heard not ignored.
Why I Stepped Forward
I didn’t wake up one day wanting to be a politician. I stepped forward because I saw concerns being ignored, history being overlooked, and families feeling unheard. I believe everyday people parents, veterans, workers, and small-business owners bring real perspective and real solutions to local government.
This campaign is not about tearing anyone down. It’s about bringing people together, honoring our past, protecting our resources, and building a stronger, safer future for Kingman.
