Utah Shakespeare Festival’s Shakespeare in the School Tour takes Kingman

KINGMAN – Tuesday, February 18, The Positive Alternative Campus and Lee Williams High School sponsored the Utah Shakespeare Festivals Shakespeare in the Schools Tour. Doors opened at 6:30 for general seating and the free performance began at 7:00, while accepting donations at the door at the Lee Williams auditorium.

The tour travels to schools and venues every year from January to April. This year they performed Romeo and Juliet. This 75-minute adaptation with complete costumes, sets and theatrical lighting also included a question and answer session from the audience.

“So this is our seventh consecutive year of bringing them to Kingman,” said Jennifer Potter. “It started out when Helda Aguilar, who taught for Kingman Unified School District years ago, brought them and I was an audience member. When I started working for KUSD and went to the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City, I picked up where she left off and brought the tour back to Kingman. What’s great is they do a performance for our students in the morning and then they do an afternoon workshop with the kids. Because Lee Williams and the Positive Alternative Campus Co-sponsor it, we offer it free to the public in the evening. Their website www.bard.org has an education tab and they go to Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Wyoming, and so forth. They do the tour and they’ll reach about 25,000 students and Kingman gets to be apart of that tour. KUSD prides itself on a focus on the arts and this is one way to bring exposure to the arts,” she continued.
