New after-school program coming to Kingman

KINGMAN – Kingman will soon be getting a new and improved after-school program center for youth through the philanthropy of Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC), in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley (BGCAZ).

The Clubs serve families and their children at 32 locations in the greater Phoenix area, as well Yuma. BGCAZ will enjoy a $1-lease arrangement for up to 25 years to operate in the entire east end of the commercial complex located along Airway Avenue at Burbank St.

Shaw takes plea for sex offenses at group home

BULLHEAD CITY – A Bullhead City woman who committed sex offenses involving a 14-year-old boy at a group home in Kingman has entered a plea agreement. Jamie Shaw, 40, will be convicted of sexually motivated aggravated assault, while child molestation and unlawful sexual conduct counts are dismissed in the deal.

Authorities said Shaw was working for Harbor house in the 1900 block of Pacific Avenue where the boy was lodged when the crime occurred on May 15.

Bids out for Rancho Santa Fe Parkway project

KINGMAN – Five Arizona construction firms and another in Colorado have plan holder status and are in position to possibly submit bids to build an Interstate 40 traffic interchange (TI) in Kingman. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is scheduled on Sept. 6 to open bids for the Rancho Santa Fe Parkway TI.

The City has already paid the agency $48.3 million to administer project construction in northeast Kingman.

Barlow spared from prison sentence

COLORADO CITY – A Colorado City man avoided a two- to five-year prison term during his August 14 sentencing hearing for a sex offense involving a 24-year-old girl. Delbert Barlow, 55, previously pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault.

Barlow allegedly groped the victim as she slept on the couch at a Colorado City home on South Hammon Street on Dec. 25, 2023.
