KINGMAN – He’s one of Kingman’s more recognizable panhandling regulars. A man named “Dave” frequently works the corner of Airway Avenue and Stockton Hill Road, catching some shade cast by pine trees just west of the fuel island at Smith’s.

So, if Dave has multiple hours to beg, several days a week, why would he not work instead?

“I’m 63. I can’t compete for a job with these kids. I can’t wait three weeks or three months to get a phone call out of 100 applications and then they ask me 100 questions about my career path

Officer spat on following arrest

KINGMAN – A Kingman man spit on a police officer following his arrest over the weekend. Deputy police Chief Joel Freed said officers responded right about midnight to a report of a man screaming profanities while walking in the vicinity of Rutherford Street and Beverly Avenue.

Freed said 38-year-old Justin Welch refused to exit the roadway and was placed in custody early Saturday, Sept. 14.

“While completing paperwork Welch spat at one of the officers, striking him in the face,”

We’ve reached the 23rd anniversary of use of aircraft by terrorists to bring down the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. Two commercial jet planes struck the towers, causing their collapse and the destruction of four other WTC buildings. New after-school program coming to Kingman

KINGMAN – Kingman will soon be getting a new and improved after-school program center for youth through the philanthropy of Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC), in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley (BGCAZ).

The Clubs serve families and their children at 32 locations in the greater Phoenix area, as well Yuma. BGCAZ will enjoy a $1-lease arrangement for up to 25 years to operate in the entire east end of the commercial complex located along Airway Avenue at Burbank St.

City of Kingman to utilize new software for building sector

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman has approved a contract that staff believes will improve government efficiency and citizen service, particularly in the building sector. Presenting during the Aug. 20 City Council meeting, Finance Director Tina Moline enthusiastically endorsed use of the Granicus SmartGov Permitting, Licensing and Planning software program.

“It is going to increase our productivity throughout or organization and just as importantly, it’s going to provide an increased level of service to all of our external customers, so this is very exciting,”
