Suicide prevention walk slated for Havasu community

LAKE HAVASU CITY – The Lake Havasu Community Health Foundation is taking it to the streets again to support an extremely important cause. The foundation is well known around town for getting the public involved with their many educational programs about mental health.

The health foundation has various ongoing support groups such as their caregiver group that provides help to those health care workers that help those suffering from dementia, and their cancer association of Havasu that gives support to anyone caring for those undergoing cancer treatments, are programs that are dedicated to help individuals through challenging times. The health nonprofit is also focused on mental health struggles.

With the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, many medical communities have observed an uprise of mental health obstacles such as anxiety, depression and suicide. It has been estimated that over 44,000 Americans pass away by way of suicide each year.

This fact is especially higher amongst younger individuals as young as 10 to 24. This amount is also high with veterans, and the elderly.

This year will mark the 8th annual walking event. There will be accessible water stations along the route and the foundation will be providing name tags to participants who know someone they have lost to suicide.

Registration includes t-shirts which will be given at the Havasu Community Health Foundation located at the Acoma Executive Plaza, 94 Acoma Blvd. S. Suite 101. Information about how to participate can be obtained by calling the health foundation at 928-453-8190. The You Matter Suicide Awareness and Prevention will be on Saturday, September 14 beginning with a rally at 7:30 a.m. from Rotary Park Ramada C followed by the walk at 8 a.m.

Their annual You Matter Suicide Awareness walk aims to bring awareness to these continuous statistics, as well as encouragement for preventions.
