SheStrong hosting triathlon for kids

MOHAVE COUNTY – President and founder of SheStrong Inc. Brandy Ramirez is reaching out and inviting kids, ages 6 through 13, in Mohave County to come out and participate in SheStrong’s first ever USAT Youth Splash and Dash event on August 5 at Centennial Community Park in Kingman. It is a free event for all kids who wish to participate. Sign ups begin at 7 a.m. in front of Centennial Pool, and the event starts at 8 a.m. Applications for the Splash and Dash can be found at monarchtriathlon.com/shestrong-free-splash-dash/.

The Youth Splash and Dash is a non-competitive event whose purpose is to introduce kids to athletic exercise, triathlon, and the multisport world. Ramirez said, “We’re hoping to encourage our youth to be more active outdoors. We want them to know the joy of a good swim, a nice run, and the overall benefits of exercising their bodies.” Ramirez founded SheStrong Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit after her own personal battle with stage 3 breast cancer. In 2022, Ramirez, a mother of four, hosted the area’s first ever USAT sanctioned event, the Monarch Triathlon. It was such a success that Ramirez has organized the Monarch Triathlon’s return to Kingman this year on Sept. 30.

With each successful year the money raised from the Monarch Triathlon go toward scholarships for girls whose primary caregiver has battled cancer. When asked why she created the Splash and Dash for kids event, Ramirez said, “While hosting and planning the triathlon I realized that Kingman was lacking a multisport event for the youth. So, I am happy to announce that SheStrong will be coordinating and hosting this free event for kids.”

Every kid that participates in the slide, swim, and run, and who crosses the finish line will receive a medal, a swag bag filled with goodies, and a raffle ticket for prizes drawn at the end of the event. Spots are limited, only the first 60 kids that sign up will be eligible to participate. A parent or guardian must also be present at registration.

“It’s going to be a fun-filled day with lots of learning about exercise, an experience in a multisport event, and prizes. Summer is blazing away, so come out and enjoy the Centennial Pool, watch the kids have some fun, and don’t forget it’s free,” said Ramirez.

If anyone is interested in volunteering for this event, please contact SheStrong Inc., at shestrong@yahoo.com.
