Schuster, Warren, Kentch take county election

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County Sheriff Doug Schuster cruised to re-election and John Warren secured the County School Superintendent’s seat in the July 30th general election. Both won republican primaries with no democrats on the ballot for the Nov. 5 general election.

Schuster piled up 72.9% (25,793) of the vote, eliminating challenger Mike Gannuscio (9,567).

“I’m truly honored and humbled by the tremendous suport I’ve received once again and I’m very grateful to the citizens of Mohave County for putting their trust in me,” Schuster said. “Our priority will remain ensuring that Mohave County is a safe place to live, work and raise a family.”

Warren (44.6%, 13,476) will exit his Topock School District Superintendent post to succeed retiring County School Superintendent Mike File following his GOP primary win over James Barber (10,249) and Gordon Groat (6,458).

“I’m excited. I think the volume of experience that I have serving in Mohave County has groomed me for this position,” Waren said. “I’m super appreciative of the tremendous support that I’ve gotten out of Lake Havasu, Bullhead and all of the outlying areas, Wikieup, Yucca, Hackberry, Valentine. I’m very honored.”

Assessor Jeanne Kentch (39%, 12,522) prevailed in the GOP primary over challengers Becky Foster (12,053) and Rebecca Main Liska (7,413).

Incumbents unopposed in the republican and general elections and on their way to new four-year terms in November include County Attorney Matt Smith, Superior Court Judge Rick Williams, Assessor Jeanne Kentch, Treasurer SueAnn Mello and Recorder Lydia Durst.

Election results are preliminary and unofficial pending canvas on Aug. 8.
