Sammeli to seek another term

KINGMAN – Four incumbents and at least nine other citizens have picked up nominating packets at Kingman City Hall to attempt to qualify candidacy and pursue campaigns for office in the 2024 election cycle. Vice Mayor Cherish Sammeli was the last current office holder to indicate prospective candidacy in the municipal races.

Sammeli joins members Jamie Stehly and Keith Walker in pursuit of new four-year terms on Council. Mayor Ken Watkins was promoted to Mayor upon the health-related retirement of former Mayor Jen Miles and he will be seeking election to his first full two-year term as Mayor.

Nine citizens have picked up packets intending to qualify candidacy for council races. Newly appointed Councilor Cengiz Arik, Frank Nieman, Claude Saravia, Elliot Chalew, Cindy Olivas and Janet Petrice are interested in running for a two-year term.

James Dykens and Brandon Laumeister have declared intent to run for four-year council terms. Christopher Wertenberger picked up a packet but has not submitted the statement of interest indicating which office he might seek.

Anyone interested in running for Council or Mayor next year should contact City Clerk Annie Meredith to schedule an appointment to handle related paperwork.
