Robinson jailed

UPDATED May 7, 2021 3:55 p.m

KINGMAN – A man who has many times accused various public officials of wrongdoing now faces possible prosecution for alleged drunk driving. Steven Claude Robinson, 65, was booked into the Adult Detention Center late Thursday, April 6 on a charge of driving under the influence to the slightest degree.

Robinson served as point person for the Donald Trump Presidential campaign in northwest Arizona last year and he has worked tirelessly for the Mohave County republican party over the years, including a stint as Dist. 1 Director.

Kingman police officer Kenneth Morris responded at 10:53 p.m. to a report of an altercation at a residence at 1020 Gardencrest Dr. Morris’ police report said he was enroute when informed that one of the parties in the dispute had driven from the address in a black Ford Expedition with Utah plates.

Morris said a vehicle matching that description passed in the opposite direction and that he turned around and effected a traffic stop in the vicinity of Stockton Hill Road and Riata Valley Road. The police narrative said Morris detected an odor of alcohol as he engaged the driver identified as Robinson.

“I also noticed that his face was flushed, his eyes were red, bloodshot and watery,” Morris’ report said. “When Steven walked it appeared that his balance was slightly off.”

Robinson reportedly told Morris that he was in the living room at his brother’s home on Gardencrest and watching television that night when he yelled because he didn’t like what “a liberal” was saying. He told the officer that he and his brother exchanged words and that he decided to get a hotel for the night.

Morris said Robinson admitted he drank one margarita on the evening, but that he refused to submit to standard field sobriety tests.

“Steven did not consent to the testing and kept saying he was nervous about failing,” the police report said.

Morris asked about damage to the passenger side mirror of the SUV his report said that Robinson responded it occurred when he pulled out of the way when he passed by the officer before the traffic stop. Morris said Robinson provided inconsistent answers when asked about the type of vehicle involved and where the collision occurred.

“Steven stated at that point that he does not know what happened and that he does not feel he should make any more statements,” the report said. Morris said he then placed Robinson under arrest.

The police report noted that a breath sample obtained almost an hour after the ordeal began showed a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .072 and a second test conducted 7 minutes later showed .074. The standard BAC for DUI in Arizona is .08.

  1. About time law enforcement hauled his drunken ass of the road. Better late than never considering he could have killed someone, and everyone knew about his drinking and driving history.

  3. I would bet antifas forced alcohol down his throat while he was peacefully engaging in a frank and wide ranging discussion on the merits of democracy. Raging hypocrisy?

  5. I don’t know this person at all. My question is this. If he wasn’t legally drunk, why was he arrested?

        1. Patricia Allman; It means that when a propagandist posts about something or someone they are appealing positively to the public about, they always start it off by claiming they have nothing to do with (or that they don’t know) the person (as in your comment). However the information contained in the article explains your question in this quote “Steven did not consent to the testing and kept saying he was nervous about failing,” So when someone refuses to cooperate with law enforcement, then law enforcement has the option of placing the “nervous about failing” individual under arrest.

          1. Propagandist?? You “assume” too much. I wouldn’t know this man if I walked straight into him. I asked a question looking for an answer, that’s it!

  7. Robinson refused to test for intoxication and the law states that “Consequences of refusing a DUI breath or chemical test in Arizona under A.R.S. 28 – 1321 (B) include the following:

Driver’s license suspended for a year for the first refusal; and driver’s license suspension for two years for a second refusal within 7 years.
If the driver refuses to take the requested DUI breathalyzer test, the officer may still obtain a warrant to conduct the impaired driving breath or chemical test despite the refusal.
If police feel they already have probable cause of impaired driving due to alcohol or drugs the officer may proceed with making an arrest without the DUI test.
A DUI test refusal may be admitted as evidence against the suspect at trial.
If a person is unable to complete the test for any reason, it will be treated as a refusal for purposes of the MVD driver’s license suspension.

Following the expiration of the MVD suspension period, the person’s driver license may be reinstated only after successful completion of a drug or alcohol screening program.”
