Risk Management Director Dorner resigns; department to be realigned

Risk and Emergency Management Director Joe Dorner

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County Manager Sam Elters plans to divide a department and reassign its parts as its Director steps down. Elters announced the resignation of Risk and Emergency Management Director Joe Dorner during the May 19 Board of Supervisors meeting.

“I would like to extend my appreciation for his service and hard work,” Elters said of Dorner. “He has served the county well.”

Dorner exits for alternative employment at Lee Williams High School where he’ll serve as a teaching coach mentoring educators.

Elters said Risk and Emergency Management were merged years ago, but should be separated.

“There is clear difference in functions between Risk and Emergency Management,” Elters told the Board. “So, going forward I do plan to make administrative change to realign these two divisions with other departments where there is a better and more natural alignment.”

Elters did not specify which departments he would reassign the Risk and Emergency Management Divisions that he said would remain merged until July 3. He noted the county should enjoy savings by essentially eliminating the Director position held by Dorner and placing the divisions under the supervision of the directors of other departments.
