LAKE HAVASU CITY – Lake Havasu’s sparkling blue-green waters have drawn millions of boaters, paddlers, anglers and sightseers to its sandy shores. But another major draw for both visitors and Lake Havasu City’s 55,000 residents is the wide variety of exciting special events held in the fall.
November, for instance, will be a month to remember when radio-controlled seaplanes take to the skies; one of the largest boat shows in the Southwest will display sand, water and recreational vehicles from 145 exhibitors; and paddlers will compete in canoes, kayaks and whatever other human-powered craft floats their boat.
“We have a full-time executive at Go Lake Havasu devoted to attracting a wide variety of events to town and her work has certainly paid off in terms of providing memorable only-in-Lake Havasu experiences for young and old,” says Terence Concannon, president/CEO of Go Lake Havasu.
Favorite new and returning events this November promise to provide great fodder for any Instagram account:
4th Annual Havasu 600 Air Race, Nov. 7-9
For most of us, airplanes are used to take us from Point A to Point B. But members of the Rio Colorado 99s actually race their Cessna, Cirrus, Piper and Beech Bonanza aircraft 600 nautical miles (about 690 miles), terminating in Lake Havasu City. The race benefits the Don and Tookie Hensley Memorial (Flight) Scholarships. Location: Lake Havasu City Joe La Placa Memorial Airport (KHII). 34th Annual London Bridge Seaplane Classic, Nov. 8 – 10
Not all aircraft carry passengers or freight, especially not these small-size radio control planes competing in one of the best RC flight events in the U.S. Hobbyists from all over the country gather for three days as guests of the local Desert Hawks RC Club to showcase their scale-model planes to the delight of spectators.
The pilots aren’t just fans of radio controlled airplanes. They’re fans of radio-controlled seaplanes, proving that in Lake Havasu City there’s a home for nearly every hobby and special interest. Location: Lake Havasu State Park, Windsor 4, 171 London Bridge Rd.
