Public input sought on Willow Beach improvements

BOULDER CITY  – The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public comments on the development of an environmental assessment to improve portions of Willow Beach Road.

The NPS, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, is proposing to repair the deteriorated roadway. The road has reached the end of its serviceable life, and a segment of the road is located within a wash and prone to repeat flash flooding.

The purpose of the proposed project is to provide a safe and sustainable driving route from U.S. Highway 93 to the Willow Beach Marina that is resilient to flood damage and cost-effective to maintain.

Because public participation is essential to the success of the planning process, the National Park Service encourages the public to provide ideas, concerns, issues, suggestions and potential topics for consideration as staff develops the environmental assessment.

Comments and recommendations regarding the scope of the environmental assessment will be accepted through Sept. 19. They may be submitted by U.S. Mail to Lake Mead National Recreation Area, ATTN: Planning and Compliance Office, 601 Nevada Way, Boulder City, NV 89005 or online at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/LAKE.

Following the analysis of the public scoping comments, the NPS will prepare an environmental assessment for the project, which will be made available for a 30-day public review period.
