LAKE HAVASU CITY – In response to the release of recent data reflecting lower COVID-19 related cases and hospitalizations, Lake Havasu City Mayor Cal Sheehy is suspending proclamation 2020-04, requiring face coverings or masks in Lake Havasu City, effective September 28, 2020.
The decision to remove Lake Havasu City’s order is based upon the significant decline of infection and hospitalization rates in Mohave County seen over the past several weeks. Mohave County met the metric on September 3, 2020 for some businesses that closed under an executive order from the Governor to reopen in a modified manner. This past Thursday, September 24, Mohave County met the state metrics for students to return to in-person learning when local governing boards decide the time is right.
“Thank you to our citizens and visitors for your contributions, efforts, and cooperation with the proclamation to help slow the spread of COVID-19,” said Mayor Sheehy. “Your efforts have resulted in lower cases and less COVID related hospitalizations. I encourage you to continue to take personal responsibility and make the best decisions for you and your family regarding our combined efforts to get this virus under control.”
The best practices for the mitigation of COVID-19 still includes staying home when you are not feeling well, practicing good hand hygiene, physically distancing yourself from others, and wearing a face covering or mask when in an indoor public place. Public health professionals strongly recommend the use of face coverings or masks. Face coverings or masks continue to be required by Governor Doug Ducey in restaurants, bars, gyms, fitness centers, and theaters. Also, many businesses continue to require the use of face coverings or masks in their establishment.
Continuing to wear a face covering or mask voluntarily can help to keep our schools and businesses open, and Mayor Sheehy encourages all citizens and visitors to wear a face covering or mask in order to slow the spread of the virus in Lake Havasu City.
