Plan for ongoing lane restrictions on I-40 near Arizona-California state line through March

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists traveling on Interstate 40 near the Arizona-California state line to expect lane restrictions on a 3-mile segment of the interstate through March.

Drivers should be prepared to slow down and make frequent stops while the following restrictions are in place for crews to replace guardrail:

  • East- and westbound I-40 is currently narrowed to one lane in each direction between the Arizona-California state and the Needle Mountain Traffic Interchange (mileposts 0 to 3) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
  • A 16-foot vehicle width restriction.
  • The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph in the workzone.
  • The restrictions will be lifted each day after work hours.

Paving will begin after the guardrail replacement work is completed. This is the second of two I-40 paving projects near the state line that ADOT has initiated. The first project, between mileposts 3 and 8, is underway and scheduled to be completed in the spring.

ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution and watch for construction personnel and equipment while construction is underway.
