Plan for ongoing lane restrictions on I-40 near Arizona-California state line starting Sept. 12 for paving

Prepare for delays

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists traveling on Interstate 40 near the Arizona-California state line to expect around-the-clock lane restrictions on a 2-mile segment of the interstate beginning Thursday, Sept. 12, through mid-October.

Drivers should be prepared to slow down and make frequent stops while the following restrictions are in place:

  • I-40 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction roughly between mileposts 4 and 5.
  • A 14-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph in the workzone.

This is the first of two I-40 paving projects near the state line that ADOT has initiated. The second project, between mileposts 0-2, will start later this year.

ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution and watch for construction personnel and equipment while construction is underway.
