Pegasus announces new ventures in Mohave County
MOHAVE COUNTY – At a very brief press conference on Friday, Dec. 13, Pegasus Group Holdings, the largest solar powered data center in the world, announced extensive and expanding plans in Mohave County. The company closed on 770 acres of land, which will result in nearly 1,500 acres of land. This will assist in a $5.2 billion, phase two expansion called ‘Firefly’. The original initiative began with a $3 billion development, a 340 Megawatt solar powered data storage center, called ‘The Hive.’ The Hive was developed on 717 acres of land. The Firefly expansion will be developed on a comparable parcel of land near The Hive.
The press conference was initiated by Mohave County Economic Development Director, Tami Ursenbach.
“I have the best job in Mohave County. I’ve been able to meet people from all over the world. The reason they’ve come is because Pegasus has put us on the map.” Pegasus site selection has created an increased interest in Mohave County. That interest may result in future business ventures and development.
Pegasus CEO Dan Briggs explained the extent of the expansion and its benefits for Mohave County. “We’ve hired 27 people.” As the The Hive and Firely projects expand, the workforce will quadruple in size. “We will have over 100 employees in Mohave County.” Briggs also expressed excitement about phase two, as well as Pegasus’ continued presence in the Mohave County business community.
Jay Bloom of Pegasus, detailed the company’s successes and their gratitude. He spoke about the millions of dollars that have been added to the local economy. “We couldn’t be happier with the relationship and are looking forward to this expansion. We’ve put millions of dollars into the local economy,” he said.
Pegasus co-founder and Board of Director member M. Alberto Rodriquez credited Ursenbach with being pivotal in the selection of the Hive & Firefly sites, as well as the projects development. “We are so grateful to Tami and Mohave County for providing Pegasus with overwhelming support. We couldn’t imagine expanding anywhere else at this time.”
