KINGMAN, Ariz. – A Kingman woman who bound her boyfriend before beating him bloody while sending cell phone videos of the violence to others appeared for sentencing on July 15. Brooke Chamberlain, 22, apologized to the victim and his family.

“I understand what I did was wrong and I take full responsibility,” Chamberlain told Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle. “I think this was a wakeup call to put me in place.”

Investigation began March 19 when people receiving the violent video material out of state reported to local authorities in Iowa, who contacted the Kingman Police Department. Officers rescued the 31-year-old victim where he had been secured by a blue cord and repeatedly beaten with objects and punched and kicked at a trailer in the 2300 block of Walapai Avenue.

Defense attorney Jovan Ruvalcaba said his client’s substance abuse and poor interpersonal dynamics plagued the former couple.

“It was a toxic relationship to be a part of, an abusive relationship by both parties,” Ruvalcaba said. He said the man had previously verbally and physically abused Chamberlain and encouraged her to kill herself.

Chamberlain pleaded guilty to aggravated assault for the beating. She also pleaded guilty for her involvement in a graffiti spree resulting in $16,000 in damage to various properties in Kingman.

Judge Carlisle rejected pleas for probation and imposed a one-year prison sentence. He also ordered Chamberlain to perform 80 hours of community work service while serving probation for four years after she is released from prison.
