Old downtown arcade center to become Mohave College cosmetology school

KINGMAN — The downtown Kingman building that housed the A & P Pawn shop for decades before it became an arcade and game center is being renovated for a Mohave College cosmetology program in downtown Kingman.

Contractors are renovating the interior of the block building and will also extend the facade of the structure so it aligns with the adjacent building shared by the College and the Kingman Area Chamber of Commerce in the 300 block of Beale Street.

Health Professions Dean Dr. June Weiss said a 2025 social media survey revealed great interest in the cosmetology program that will focus on hair, nails and skin care. She said a 3,500 sq. ft. salon will feature 13 hair stations and 3 stations each for pedicures and manicures.

Weiss said students must be 16 years of age to start the program that can be completed in 12-28 months, with options for daytime night and weekend classes that could begin as early as Aug.
