KINGMAN – A Mohave County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed a man during a lunch hour encounter in Kingman. Agency spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said deputies responded at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13 to a request to assist a neighboring law enforcement agency with a pursuit in north Kingman.
“Deputies spotted the involved vehicle and observed the involved male subject walking on Norrie Dr. with a weapon,” Mortensen said. “Verbal commands were issued and a confrontation with the male subject evolved into shots fired by one deputy and the male subject.”
Mortensen said the subject was dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The Kingman Police Department will conduct an independent, outside investigation of the incident, which is standard practice in officer-involved shootings. Also in line with customary procedure, the deputy involved is on paid administrative leave pending the investigative review.

This was my husband of 14 yrs he DID NOT deserve to die this way. It could have been prevented if our local law enforcement and medical weren’t so ignorant when it comes to mental illness. He was a wonderfuI man and I watched him change from being the most caring, honest, loyal, and giving man to someone I didn’t recognize. We have two beautiful daughters and my heart breaks everyday watching them trying to get through this, and wrap their minds around how their fathers life ended.Buddy had a mental illness and is a prime example of how bad things can get when doctors neglect their patients needs and care more about what prod they are supposed to be pushing because all they can see is dollar signs and not only did the doctors fail this man so did our justice system they were our family’s last hope for help. Buddy struggled with this illness his whole life but was able to manage it up until couple years ago. He realized he needed help so he went to Mohave Mental Health and Southwest Behavioral but nobody took him serious. They just kept putting him on different medications that kept making it worse and they could see this, but they would send him home until finally he could no longer control it. That’s when I had no choice but to turn to the law for help and much to my suprise no one cared or even tried to intervene and my children and I begged and pleaded for someone to help him before he hurt himself or someone else and they did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Needless to say I have no respect for Mojave county law enforcement or the mental health doctors in this town. They’re a joke.
