Officer involved in fatal shooting on leave during investigation

GOLDEN VALLEY – A man wanted for multiple felony offenses was killed in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) in Golden Valley. Authorities said Jason Henke, 42, Golden Valley, died of multiple gunshot wounds late Wednesday at a home in the 3600 block of N. Santa Maria Road.

The Kingman Police Department is conducting an independent investigation of the shooting involving a Mohave County sheriff’s deputy. Police spokeswoman Jennifer Sochocki said the deputy developed information during an 11:15 p.m. traffic stop that Henke was at the N. Santa Maria Road residence.

Sochocki said the deputy arrived on the property about 11:30 p.m.

“The deputy contacted Henke and observed a firearm was within Henke’s possession,” Sochocki said. “Henke was ordered no to reach or grab the gun. Ultimately, Henke reached for his firearm and the deputy fired multiple rounds striking Henke.”

Sochocki said Henke was dead at the scene. She said he was wanted in three arrest warrants charging him with eight counts of aggravated assault, eight counts of disorderly conduct involving a weapon and one count each of stalking by domestic violence, criminal damage, unlawful flight, threatening by domestic violence, harassment by domestic violence and indecent exposure.

The name of the deputy involved is initially withheld. He is placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting investigation is pending, which is standard practice in OIS incidents.
