Mohave Valley man faces jury trial on decade-old sex crime allegations

MOHAVE VALLEY — Allegations that a young girl endured criminal sex offenses in Mohave Valley more than a decade ago are being heard in Mohave County Superior Court. A jury trial began Tuesday in the case against Jon Deocampo, 60.

Deocampo is charged with four counts of sexual conduct with a minor in what defense attorney Bob Heieck called a delayed reporting case. He told the jury that the charges involve conduct between 2012-2015, but that the alleged victim did not report the offenses until 2021.

Deputy county attorney Leah Nelson described each of the charged incidents during her opening statement in the trial. She told the jury that Deocampo bartered favors and gifts in exchange for a variety of sexual conduct and touching.

Nelson said the activity stopped when the victim was 14 years old and began living with her dad. She told the jury that she began suffering victim trauma in 2019 and was dealing with nightmares when she finally told her father and law enforcement authorities what had happened in 2021.

Judge Lee Jantzen is presiding over the three-day trial at the Law and Justice Center.
